Anxiety Disorder – What Are The Treatments

An anxiety disorder can be described as a manifestation of worry or a series of anxious behaviors aimed at warding it off.  It is an everyday experience that we all have. However, an anxiety disorder can be characterized as a three-fold disorder. There are general anxiety, phobic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). These disorders can be treated with medication, therapy, or other complementary methods.

There are several types of therapies that can be used to treat anxiety disorders. These include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. The first type focuses on understanding anxiety and how to practice constructive responses. The second focuses on reducing fear. The third includes a commitment to change and entertaining anxious thoughts. To find out more, you can hop over to this site:

Five classes of medication are used to treat anxiety disorders. These are as follows: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs), Benzodiazepines, Tricyclic Antidepressants, and Beta-Blockers. SSRIs prevent serotonin from being reabsorbed by nerve cells.

This allows for serotonin levels to rise and improve mood. SNRIs work in the same manner as SSRIs but have the added benefit of increasing brain norepinephrine. Both SSRIs and SNRI can be used to treat anxiety. The physical symptoms of anxiety, including muscle relaxation, can be managed with benzodiazepines.

Complementary Treatments

Alternative treatments are available that go beyond the boundaries of traditional medicine and can help with an anxiety disorder. These treatments can be used to supplement current medical or therapeutic treatment for anxiety, or as an alternative. Yoga, acupuncture, and stress management techniques are some complementary treatments.

Relaxation can be helpful in relieving anxiety, although it is not as effective for treating depression. Yoga combines physical exercises, meditation, breathing lessons, philosophical overtones, and more. The effects of acupuncture on the flow of energy in the body can be seen by the use of needles.
